Benefits of Karate

karate benefits flexability
Contrary to popular thought, karate is not all about chopping bricks or fighting. It is using the body to its maximum potential using technique and focus.

Practising karate uses the students’ own body to strengthen, tone and improve balance and coordination. These improvements are of benefit to everyone whatever their age.

Children of 5-10 years should see an improvement in coordination, balance, speed of reflexes, strength. They are also taught that is necessary to behave during the lessons.

From 10-16 years, students will be physically growing rapidly. They will learn how to control their new body shape and strength. They will also learn how to behave responsibly. Self-confidence and self-respect will be developed further which are essential attributes in our modern world.

From 16-25 years old, adulthood is reached and good habits should be set for stamina, discipline and fitness as well as life skills of self-defence and control. An attitude of self-confidence without arrogance should be apparent as well as an awareness of how to avoid dangerous situations outside the dojo.

From 25 years of age, karate should ensure good cardiovascular fitness, joint suppleness, flexibility and medium impact exercise. This will hopefully lessen the development of heart disease, diabetes, joint problems and osteoporosis, therefore improving posture, confidence and toning. Karate is also a great stress reliever.

Karate is also the opportunity to train with other people who may become good friends and training partners.

Whilst karate training should be hard work it should also be good fun!
