About us

Meadvale Karate Club was set up in 2009. It began as a karate based self defence class originally for mums and their daughters. We used karate techniques to learn how to keep safe whilst out and about. As the members wanted to progress further and formalise their training we became an official karate club and continued using traditional karate practices and techniques.

Over the years we have had people from many walks of life through our doors, from mums who wish to regain fitness after having children to those who have trained in other martial arts and enjoy our Club ethos. Some students have come along having suffered some form of assault or trauma and have appreciated regaining some confidence in themselves.

We now have 4 classes running. Mondays class enables students to come straight from school. We run 3 classes on Wednesday evenings. The earlier two are for children from age 5 to around 12 years old. The later class is for teenagers upwards although most of the students in this class are adults. There is no upper age limit. All 4 classes include beginners and experienced students.

Our older junior students and the adults also practice with martial arts weapons mainly nunchukas and bo staffs. This increases our understanding of martial arts and widens our syllabus.

We are a very friendly club and all new members are assured of a warm welcome.
