About the Sensei

female karate sensei
Fiona began her karate training in 2003 as a means of keeping fit and losing the “baby weight” that had accumulated since having twins. Having been completely useless at sport in any form when at school, she rapidly discovered that karate was a sport that would keep her fit and be very useful in everyday life.

She has competed in regional and national competitions in both kumite and kata.

She has a special interest in practical self defence and has trained staff at doctors surgeries to help defend against agitated patients and also volunteers at a domestic violence charity to help protect them when visiting their clients in their homes. She continues to hold Self Defence courses when requested including a local 6th Form college where she has held classes for the students for the past 7 years.

Mixed classes and all age groups are now taught and it is not uncommon for people who have been seriously attacked to attend with a view to preventing a repeat incident.

In addition to Karate training, she also practised kick-boxing for about 18 months and has also attended courses on swordsmanship, weapons kata and the use of pressure points.

She presently holds the rank of 1st Dan awarded in 2009 by an international karate organisation.

Fiona has a clear enhanced DBS certificate, holds a 1st Aid certificate and also Public and Professional Liability Insurance.
